Frequently Asked Questions – WG edition

Answers to the questions I get asked all the time, starting with everyone’s favourite!

How much does a website cost?

The cost of designing and building a website varies based on a number of factors, including the level of functionality required for your business. A basic website from Wise Genius starts from £2,000, ranging upwards to suit your specific requirements.

How does your payment process work?

I ask for 50% of the agreed project fee up-front before work commences, with a further instalment of 30% at the build stage and the final payment once the website has gone live.

How long does it take to build a website?

The length of a website design and build can vary depending on the complexity of the project, starting from 6 to 8 weeks. I will work with you to agree a project timeline that suits your needs, setting milestones to keep us on track.

What kind of businesses do you work with?

I have 10 years experience of working with business owners across a range of sectors. Wise Genius is all about getting to know you and your business inside out to ensure your website supports it in the best possible way.

Can you help me write content for my website?

Unfortunately, not. However, I know several talented copywriters who will do an excellent job for you.

What about sourcing photographs?

I can point you in the direction of some quality stock photograph providers, such as Unsplash. I can also recommend photographers and videographers to produce custom imagery and video content.

Do I own my website once you’ve built it?

Absolutely! You own the website Wise Genius designs and builds for you, plus the visual elements created for it.

What is exactly is website hosting?

For your website to be visible online, it needs to be hosted on a web server. This server stores all the files and data that make up the site and ensures it is always available on the internet. Servers are provided by hosting companies who charge businesses a fee for the server space, alongside other services including email and domain names. WP Beginner have written a great article which explains website hosting in more detail (and much better than me!) – How to Host a Website (Simple Guide for Beginners).

Can you sort out website hosting for me?

I can recommend reliable UK-based hosting providers and help you chose the best package to suit your needs, as well as support you in setting up your hosting account. It is important that this is in your name and that you have control over it, should you decide to use another company for your website in the future.

Do you provide training?

Yes, I provide free training to all clients who have a website built by Wise Genius, covering site maintenance, updating content, adding blog posts and anything else you wish to know. You will be given a set of personalised notes to guide you in the future. Wise Genius also offers a specific WordPress training service.

Why Wise Genius?

Back in 2009 when I was considering what to call my business, I put a few phrases into an online anagram solver. Typing in “Susie Web Design” came up with two words that caught my attention: wise and genius. At first, the thought of calling myself Wise Genius felt pretentious, until my husband pointed out that I could flip it around – my clients were the wise ones for choosing to work with me. And so Wise Genius was born!
